Political debate about "immigration" from Eastern Europe

Over 90% of the people that we have placed with employers in the UK have a profession or skilled trade and are making a significant positive contribution to their employers, local communities and the country. Some may eventually settle in the UK but the situation is similar to that of UK nationals who for many years have worked internationally, for example in The Middle East when benefits were better. Most will eventually return to Poland as the economy grows and anyone who has visited Poland will understand that many people have a good standard of living as prices reflect the lower earnings. United Kingdom nationals expect to work, travel and buy property around Europe freely. We believe that Poles who after all were let down after the second world war and sold into communism have earned the same rights.

Recent articles in the Sunday Times May 2006

"Calling all Poles" editorial and other articles. Obviously we have known for a long time that the people placed by us are hard working and reliable. Our business was founded on the premise that given the opportunity Poles would prove to be a great asset to our customers and so it has proved.

We have yet to be informed of a single instance of any Pole seeking support form the public purse. The people who we have introduced have contributed many thousands to the economy in productivity ,renting accommodation, purchasing of goods and taxation.

"Migrant workers boost UK growth" BBC April 2006

A report by Ernst & Young using the treasury model stated that "The steady flow from most recent accession countries to the UK has proved remarkably positive for the economy. As a direct result, the UK workforce has become younger, more flexible and economical, easing the pensions burden and keeping interest rates lower than many commentators would have predicted."

The majority of these people are from the new EU countries, Poland in particular. The report also noted how the benefits had spread throughout the country as the new workers had not just concentrated in major urban areas.

The report confirms our own experience as our candidates are now employed successfully throughout the UK in both urban and rural areas

Personnel Today Forums Feb/Mar 06

A number of contributors recently confirmed that Polish employees demonstrate an excellent attitude and good productivity.

Accession Monitoring Report November 2005

This government report supported our experience that Polish employees in particular have developed an excellent reputation. We are not aware of any of our candidates who have found difficulty in integrating into the community. We have never heard of a single Polish person who has sought to obtain welfare benefits.

"Nationals from the Accession 8 countries continue to come to the UK to work, contributing to the
success of the UK economy, whilst making very few demands of our welfare system or public
services".

"Accession workers are continuing to go where the work is, helping to fill the gaps in our labour
market,"

"In many cases Accession nationals are supporting the provision of public services in communities
across the UK."

"The numbers applying for tax-funded income-related benefits, child benefit, tax credits and housing support remain very low."

Exploitation

We are disappointed to note that some Polish workers continue to be exploited or poorly treated by unscrupulous agencies.

We are still receiving reports of people being asked for money by individuals or agencies to find work for them. This practice is illegal in both Poland and the UK. In some cases well known British companies are complicit in this exploitation by failing to properly check their supply chain.

Agencies offering employers prospective candidates for "free" or for very small fees should always arouse suspicion. These unfair and illegal practices harm candidates and our business.
